Helen Mastbaum, age 90 (7/12/1919 – 2/5/2010) of St. Paul. Preceded in death by husband, Allen; parents, Nachum & Shandel Kornwitz; son, Oscar; brothers, Jack and Simcha Kornwitz; sister, Chaya Kornwitz, and countless other family members that perished in the Holocaust. Survived by beloved children, Norman (Marcey) and Irene (Danny) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Paul (Daniella), Eli, David (Heather), Jeremy, and Joshua; great-granddaughter, Lucianna. Helen was a Holocaust survivor who escaped the horrors and dungeons of Nazi Europe. She was a member of the Skalat Uprising. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 and was immediately embraced by its’ values of generosity, acceptance, and love. She was a grateful person who worked hard and made a home for herself and her family. She lived a long life and as she use to say, in defiance of her oppressors and to give back to the country that saved her. Funeral service SUNDAY (TODAY) 3 PM, BETH JACOB CONGREGATION, 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights. Memorials preferred to the Oscar Mastbaum Memorial Scholarship Fund for Artistic Achievement c/o Beth Jacob Congregation (651-452-2226). SHIVA at 1355 Medora Road, Mendota Heights, Sunday evening.
